Sources claim that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has formulated a 23-point plan for judicial reforms, one of which is the creation of a Supreme Court bench rather than the suggested Judicial Commission.
According to JUI-F sources, the document proposes to replace the Judicial Commission that was earlier mentioned with a bench made up of the Chief Justice and five senior Supreme Court justices to hear applications.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will soon receive copies of the draft constitutional amendment from the JUI-F.
The plan calls for leaving the Supreme Court and High Courts with their current authority, keeping judges’ retirement age at 65, and leaving Articles 8 and 199 of the Constitution unchanged.
