KARACHI: After unsuccessful negotiations between the protesters and the university administration, the student-led demonstration at the University of Karachi is now on its seventh day.
Under the aegis of the “Student Organizations’ Alliance,” the students are demonstrating against the university’s decision to charge a 50% late fee in addition to their complaints about subpar infrastructure and transportation services.
The demonstrators have declared that they will not give up until their demands are met by Dr. Khaliq Iraqui, the vice-chancellor. The university officials that TV contacted with were either unavailable or chose not to speak.
“It is necessary to upgrade the infrastructure. A spokesman for the Student Alliance, Bassam Naeem, told television that “we cannot sit in the classes, let alone learn there.”
Naeem clarified that a meeting was held by a student delegation.
