LAHORE: Citing the matter’s great significance, the Lahore High Court (LHC) announced the formation of a full court bench to hear the issue of several incidences of harassment of female students.
On Friday, LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum gave the go-ahead for the police to obtain the statement of the purported victim connected to the widely publicized allegations of “rape” involving a student at a private college in Lahore, which triggered violent protests across the province that are still going on today.
In Rawalpindi alone, about 400 people have been arrested in protest of sexual abuse and harassment of female students at educational institutions due to the implementation of Section 144, which forbids meetings and protests.
For violating Section 144, several hundred more people have been arrested in Lahore and other places.
