Between 800 and 1,000 people, according to police, gathered in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday to pay tribute to the 31-year-old who perished after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina on the third story.
Many One Direction fans were crying as the crowd chanted their hits, including the number-one single “What Makes You Beautiful.”
Fans have also gathered in Sydney, Paris, Glasgow, and other places.
On Sunday afternoon, fans braved the rainy weather to gather at London’s Hyde Park, bringing flowers, notes, and photos.
At the memorial service, many were putting them at the statue of Peter Pan.
One Direction was described as “a light in a lot of people’s lives, especially mine” by its organizer, Alicia Sinclair, a 22-year-old Hertfordshire native.
“A lot of people are upset, so it is a good time for us to come together and be with people who understand,” she said on Live.
“Almost all of my favorite memories with my sister involve One Direction,” she continued.
Therefore, it seems to me that our time together as children is coming to an end. That is the reason it is so difficult.
