ISLAMABAD: Following rigorous attempts to align the opposition parties and the Treasury, the government is set to present the final text of the proposed constitutional amendments to both chambers of parliament today.
Azam Nazeer Tarar, the federal minister for law, announced during an early Sunday press conference that the federal cabinet will reconvene at 2:30 pm today to examine and adopt the final version of the divisive 26th Constitutional Amendment.
After several delays, the government and opposition parties had separate meetings in an attempt to reach a consensus. Eventually, late on Saturday night, the cabinet convened to consider the constitutional amendments.
The minister told reporters that the information minister, Ataullah Tarar, was with him.
