The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) appointment procedure has undergone substantial modifications as a result of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which was recently ratified.
The appointment of the chief justice will no longer be determined solely by seniority, in accordance with the revised provisions. Rather, the decision will be decided by the three Supreme Court justices with the highest rank.
By adopting the 26th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority, the National Assembly strengthened the government’s position in both chambers of parliament by following the Senate’s lead.
The chief justice will be nominated by a 12-member parliamentary committee with a two-thirds majority, according the constitutional amendments.
The prime minister will then receive the name that was chosen by the committee and convey it to the president for final approval.
