Around 2:30 pm local time on Sunday, the two-seat Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 monoplane crashed, leaving just Charles Thomas “Chuck” Coleman on board.
According to city officials, Mr. Coleman was doing aerobatics when the jet crashed at Las Cruces International Airport during the Las Cruces Air and Space Expo.
The incident occurred approximately half a mile west of the airport and resulted in the cancellation of the air show.
According to his website, Mr. Coleman was a California-based engineer, aerobatic pilot, and test pilot with over 10,000 hours of flight experience.
According to his website, he has given over 3,000 rides in aerobatic planes and performed at hundreds of air events.
In his role as an instructor for Tom Cruise’s actors in Top Gun, he completed over 100 flights to get the actors ready for flight in US Navy F-18 Hornets.
