When questioned about it last week, Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman did not exactly specify who her number one is, and it seems like she has left the door open.
Hampton starting ahead of Mary Earps in Friday’s friendly against Germany would surprise me, but it doesn’t mean Wiegman has made any decisions for the tournament in Switzerland next summer.
However, Hampton now outperforms Earps in terms of both form and playing time, which are Wiegman’s strong points.
After replacing Earps due to an early injury against France, she has started England’s last three games.
The Women’s Super League season has started off well for Chelsea.
Even though she has returned to the Paris St-Germain squad for the last two games, Earps has struggled since joining from Manchester United in the summer.
