The diagnosis for Duchess Sarah Ferguson was “malignant melanoma.”
“Sarah, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer,” a representative for the Duchess of York told Fox News Digital.
Ferguson had moles removed and tested during the reconstructive surgery that followed her mastectomy. It was found that one of the moles was cancerous.

“The Duchess wants to thank the entire medical team which has supported her, particularly her dermatologist whose vigilance ensured the illness was detected when it was,” said the statement.
“She believes her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma.”

“She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages,” her representative continued. The Duchess is obviously upset by receiving a second diagnosis so soon after receiving treatment for breast cancer, but she is still upbeat.”
Ferguson was diagnosed with a “early form of breast cancer” in June after a routine mammography revealed the cancerous growth.
At the time, her representative confirmed, “She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully.”
“The Duchess is in excellent medical hands, and her physicians have informed her that her prognosis is favorable. Now, she is resting with her family.”
Ferguson shared on Instagram on New Year’s Eve her “ups and downs” from the year and that she “beat breast cancer.”
