The 69-year-old “The Voice” coach recalled her rural childhood and how her entire family assisted with her father’s cattle business’s day-to-day operations in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.
“My father raised several thousand cattle annually on our 8,000-acre ranch in Chockie, Oklahoma,” she added.
At the age of five, I started working on our ranch,” the “Fancy” hitmaker recounted. “Daddy came in and got whoever was present whenever he needed a driver to haul grain in his pickup truck.
When I was very small, my father placed a fifty-pound feed bag on the driver’s seat and then placed me on top of it. To operate the steering wheel, I would be on my knees. He would shift the truck into granny gear, get out, and leave.
McEntire was born in March 1955 to Clark and Jackie McEntire, who also had a son, Pake, and two daughters, Alice and Susie.
