According to knowledgeable sources who spoke to Business Recorder, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has rejected proposed amendments meant to implement economic load management in Pakistan, citing worries that these changes would conflict with current legislation and jeopardize the interests of consumers.
Two significant amendments to the Nepra Act were requested in a summary given by the Power Division:
Definition of Load Shedding: Section 2 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act (Nepra Act) XL of 1997 was amended to include a definition of “load shedding,” which would be defined as the process of removing customers’ loads from the power system for technical, commercial, or economic reasons after providing advance notice.
