Following his offensive remarks toward British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan during a broadcast debate on CNN Newsnight, conservative pundit Ryan James Girdusky was fired by CNN.
The network said in a statement that there is “zero room for racism or bigotry” on its platform and condemned the comments.
The event happened during a contentious discussion on CNN’s premier political program on Monday, which was hosted by Abby Phillip. Republican candidate Donald Trump’s recent speech in Madison Square Garden, the forthcoming US presidential election, and the contentious vocabulary used during the event were the main topics of conversation.
Known for his vocal support of Palestinian rights and criticism of Israel’s practices, Hasan contested the divisive and racially charged statements made by Trump and his followers during the discussion.
