After defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11–4 in Game 4 of the World Series, the New York Yankees have survived to fight another day.
Naturally, Freddie Freeman opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, but Alex Verdugo’s drive on a fielder’s choice cut the deficit in half for the Yanks. However, Anthony Volpe struck with a grand slam in the following inning, giving the Yankees their first lead since Game 1 at 5-2.
Some tiny ball allowed Los Angeles to score two more runs in the fifth, and the Yankees wasted a fantastic opportunity after it.
Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freeman were all retired when the Dodgers had the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning, and the Yanks had plenty of insurance in the eighth.
Gleyber Torres hit his first three-run home run of the month to make it a 10-4 game after Volpe scored on a play at the plate off Verdugo’s bat. Even Aaron Judge ended a five-run eighth inning with an RBI single, his first run driven in of the World Series. The Yankees have only managed to score seven runs between the first three games.
