In order to combat the growing haze, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has emphasized the value of cross-border collaboration with Indian Punjab, characterizing the problem as a humanitarian emergency that calls for coordinated action.
At an event in Lahore on Wednesday, the provincial chief executive reiterated her commitment to “smog diplomacy” and said that she may write to her Indian counterpart.
As the city’s air quality declined, residents continued to report health problems such as coughing, burning eyes, and throat irritation.
Similar statements were made earlier this month by the senior provincial official, as Pakistan and its bitter neighbor India continue to struggle with dangerously high levels of pollution caused by seasonal fog.
She added that smog is a humanitarian problem rather than a political one and urged cooperation.
