In a significant move, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi called the Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s first meeting on Tuesday, November 5, to consider the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court’s constitutional benches.
The announcement was made just hours after Ayaz Sadiq, the speaker of the National Assembly, nominated five members of parliament for the JCP, including four members of the upper and lower houses and one woman.
The Supreme Judicial Commission (SJC) received a letter from the NA speaker listing the names of the 13-member commission.
In order to consider the creation of constitutional benches, CJP Afridi calls the first JCP meeting.
The JCP secretary said that the commission’s meeting would take place at the SC on Tuesday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m.
