Lahore residents are still suffering from heavy smog, which caused the city’s air quality index (AQI) to surpass 1,000 once more on Wednesday, putting it at the top of the world’s records for air pollution.
Lahore’s AQI, which monitors a variety of pollutants, was at a “hazardous” 1,165 in the early hours of the morning, according to data from the Swiss air quality monitor IQAir.
The World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline value was 125.2 times lower than the PM2.5 pollutants, which are the tiny particulate matter in the air that harms people’s health the most.
Later, the AQI fell to 1,099, although it was still inside the “hazardous” range with varying numbers.
The city has experienced days of intense smog, with the AQI surpassing the three-figure threshold.
