KARACHI: In honor of Iqbal Day, the anniversary of the birth of Muhammad Iqbal, the Poet of the East, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) declared on Thursday that banks would be closed on November 9.
In Pakistan, November 9 is celebrated as “Iqbal Day” to commemorate Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal’s birth anniversary. He would be celebrating his 147th birthday this year.
Millions of Muslims throughout the subcontinent were greatly influenced by Dr. Iqbal to want an independent country where they could freely practice Islam.
Special prayers for Pakistan’s development and prosperity would be offered in mosques as the day broke.
Known as ‘the Poet of the East’ in Pakistan and other countries, Dr. Iqbal was born in Sialkot.
