The Supreme Court and High Court judges’ housing rent and judicial stipend have been significantly increased by the Pakistani government.
With Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s consent, a presidential amendment decree was issued that boosted Supreme Court justices’ monthly housing rent from Rs68,000 to Rs350,000 and their judicial allowances from Rs428,040 to Rs4,281,163.
The Supreme Court judges’ increased judicial allowance, which currently stands at Rs4.28 million, is a substantial increase. The tax on their benefits has also been increased to Rs11.61 million.
In a similar vein, High Court judges’ housing rent has increased from Rs65,000 to Rs350,000, and their judicial allowance has also increased.
