ISLAMABAD: A heated verbal altercation broke out at Monday’s meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior between Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Nasir Rizvi and Committee Chairman Khurram Nawaz.
IG Rizvi gave a briefing on the security issues in the capital, stating that 31 police officers were hurt and one was slain in a variety of situations during the first week of October alone. 348 VVIP movements have been secured by police in the last 11 months.
According to data provided by IG Rizvi, Islamabad recorded 2,773 street crimes between January and November 7, 2024; 3,897 robbery and carjacking reports were received by the emergency helpline; and 1,593 robbery incidents were reported.
He also emphasized the city’s surveillance capabilities, which include 568 fiber-optic cameras and 3,352 AI cameras.
