For a brief while on Tuesday, the air quality in Lahore, the smog-choked city of Punjab, dropped below the “hazardous” level for humans before rising back to the worst category.
With an air quality index of 395 as of 9:30 am, the province capital was ranked as the second most polluted city in the Swiss group’s live rankings.
Any AQI reading above 300 is deemed “hazardous” for citizens’ health, according to IQ Air.
The World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline value was 54.5 times lower than the PM2.5 pollutants, which are the tiny particulate matter in Lahore’s air that harms people’s health the most.
