David Gail passed away on Monday at the age of 58, and his cause of death has now been made public.
In a statement to PEOPLE, his family stated that the star from Beverly Hills, 90210 passed away as a result of “complications from sudden cardiac arrest.”
According to his classmates, when the emergency medical personnel discovered David unconscious, they attempted to save him using CPR, but “nothing seemed to work.”
They further revealed that the actor was declared dead by medics after being kept on life support for a number of days.
“The family has no reason to believe that a condition other than heart failure contributed to his death. David’s love of acting and his unwavering devotion to his friends and family will live on in his memory.
David’s parents closed the statement by saying, “He had a rare quality that made everyone feel special in his presence.
The deceased man’s sister, Katie Colmenares, shared a photo of the two of them cuddling on Instagram to share the news of his passing.
“There hasn’t even been a day in my life that you haven’t been by my side, my best friend and my wingman, ready to face anything and anyone with me,” the woman wrote.
David portrayed Stuart Carson, Brenda Walsh’s fiancé in Beverly Hills, 90210, as Dr. Joe Scanlon in over 200 episodes of the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, and Dean Collins in the WB drama Savannah.
