LAHORE: His son Noman Nazir revealed Thursday that his father, former Pakistani cricketer and umpire Mohammad Nazir Junior, died at the age of 78 following a protracted illness.
Since the week prior to his untimely death, Nazir had been in critical condition and receiving treatment at a private hospital in the capital city of Punjab.
Five years ago, the cricket player from Lahore suffered severe injuries in a car accident that worsened his condition.
During his international career, the right-handed cricketer grabbed 34 wickets while playing for Pakistan in 14 Test matches and four ODIs. He became the first spinner from Pakistan to take seven wickets in the opening innings of his debut Test match.
