ISLAMABAD Ten prisoners were fined and given prison sentences by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday after “cogent, trustworthy, and confidence-inspiring evidence” demonstrated their involvement in the May 9, 2023, riots that resulted in attacks on military sites.
ATC judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard a case involving protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on May 9 against the detention of the party’s founder, Imran Khan, and rendered a 15-page detailed ruling.
17 defendants in all were charged in First Information Report (FIR) 24/626.
Six of the 17 people included in the FIR were deemed absconders, while one of the accused was found not guilty.
Additionally, the ATC ordered authorities to produce the absconders before the court upon their capture and issued perpetual non-bailable orders for them.
