The weather agency reported that Wednesday’s snowfall in South Korea’s capital was the most intense November snowfall since records have been kept more than a century ago.
By 7:00 am (2200GMT Tuesday), Seoul had received 16.5 centimeters (6.5 inches) of snow, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration, more than the previous record of 12.4 cm set on November 28, 1972.
It is the biggest number in November since the agency established statewide observation posts in 17 and coincidentally marks the first snowfall of the season in Seoul.
Residents were advised to “beware of falling trees” and “refrain from operating vehicles and engaging in outdoor activities” due to a heavy snow warning.
When there is 20 cm or more of snowfall in a 24-hour period, such warnings are issued.
