A Pakistani national residing in New South Wales, Australia, has been accused with unlawfully obtaining over 100 Australians’ personal financial information, which he then used to fraudulently get hundreds of upscale mobile services.
Following an investigation by the Joint Policing Cybercrime Coordination Centre (JPC3), which was directed by the AFP, he was taken into custody on Wednesday, November 27. Telecommunications companies Optus and TPG Telecom, as well as Australian police enforcement, were involved.
Yesterday, AFP investigators carried out a search warrant at the man’s residence in Auburn, a suburb in western Sydney. The detectives allegedly discovered more than $1 million in cash, more than 500 SIM cards, and 21 electronic devices, including computers and mobile phones, that included credit cards and financial records.
