LAHORE: Beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has ordered that the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) curriculum be extended to five years.
All medical universities in the nation have been formally informed of the move, which aims to bring Pakistan’s dentistry education into compliance with international norms.
A PMDC representative stated that the fifth year will be devoted to the clerkship, which will give students more practical experience, and that a year-long structured house work or internship will follow.
This reorganization is a reaction to the difficulties Pakistani graduates encounter in finding training and work overseas, where a five-year transcript is sometimes required.
The five-year framework has already been implemented at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Lahore.
