LAHORE: Imprisoned former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi issued a warning on Saturday against “crushing” the Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) amid growing rumors of governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a ban on the erstwhile ruling party.

“Crushing the PTI is not appropriate for the country’s politics,” Qureshi stated in an unofficial interview with reporters at a Lahore anti-terrorism court.

The prominent PTI politician, who is presently detained in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, claimed that imposing governor control in KP will amount to inciting animosity inside the region.

His remarks followed rumors on social media and in local media that the federal cabinet, according to PM’s assistant Rana Sanaullah, had considered the possibility of enforcing governor rule in KP as a result.
