SUKKUR: In the murder case of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sukkur sentenced six defendants to double life in prison on Friday.
In addition, the convicted individuals received seven-year sentences for firearms offenses and fines over one million rupees each.
At Sukkur Central Jail, where strict security was in place, Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi made the announcement in a brief ruling. After lengthy proceedings that included more than 450 sessions and the testimony of 17 witnesses, the court reserved its verdict on December 13.
On November 29, 2014, Soomro was allegedly killed by the defendants, Hanif Bhutto, Sarang Totani, Mushtaq Mehr, Darya Khan Jamali, Altaf Jamali, and Latif Jamali.
