Shatha al-Sabbagh, 21, was out purchasing chocolate for her family’s kids from a store in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, just before the new year.
Along with her mother, two young nephews, and another relative, the “fearless” journalism student sought to bring attention to the suffering of the Palestinian people.
According to her mother, “she was laughing and saying we’ll be up all night tonight,”
Then she took a bullet to the head.
Umm al-Motassem, Shatha’s mother, still feels the sorrow. She pauses to catch her breath.
Shatha had her eyes wide open. She appeared to be lying on her back with blood streaming from her head, staring at me.
“I began to yell, ‘Stop shooting! My daughter has passed away. “My daughter has passed away.”
