WASHINGTON: According to the Pentagon, US airstrikes that were conducted more than a week ago have caused Iran’s nuclear program to lag by as much as two years.
Three important Iranian nuclear installations were the focus of the June 22 strikes.
Despite a much more conservative first assessment that leaked to the public, a Pentagon spokesperson told reporters on Wednesday that the damage was probably closer to a complete two-year delay, indicating that the US military operation had succeeded in its objectives.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell provided the number during a press briefing, although he added that the official estimate was “probably closer to two years.” Parnell did not present evidence to back up his assessment.
