PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration has vowed to take “indiscriminate and stringent action” against criminals who attack relief convoys and the deputy commissioner in an attempt to protect the highways and bring about long-lasting peace in the unrest-plagued Kurram district.
The province chief secretary, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan, and civil and police officers attended a high-level meeting where the decision was made. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, the spokesperson for the KP government, said in a statement.
He declared, “Action against such miscreants in affected areas is indispensable,” and vowed to see that the lawfully negotiated peace between the two warring tribes was carried out.
Approximately 150 people have been killed in a recent wave of violence that has plagued Kurram for decades.
