Astola Island, also known as Jezira Haft Talar (Island of the Seven Hills), was named Pakistan’s first marine protected area (MPA) in June 2017. It now has a management plan that has been officially approved by the Baloch government, called the Astola Island Marine Protected Area (AIMPA).
The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity has been ratified by the Pakistani government. The CBD, which encourages the preservation of all life on Earth and the fair use of living resources, was signed by 150 nations at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
Pakistan created its first-generation Biodiversity Action Plan in 1999, one of many states that created theirs under the treaty. By 2010, these national action plans were expected to be completed.
