With Secretary of State Marco Rubio ready to meet with the foreign ministers of both nations to promote calm and prevent further escalation, the United States has intervened diplomatically as tensions between India and Pakistan continue to grow in the wake of the Kashmir incident.
During a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce informed reporters, “We are reaching out to both parties, and telling, of course, them not to escalate the situation.”
Bruce said Secretary Rubio is scheduled to speak directly with the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan on Wednesday, stressing the value of moderation and candid communication.
The spokesperson went on to say that Secretary Rubio has urged “other foreign ministers around the world to do the same” and that he believes diplomacy must lead.
