KYIV/WASHINGTON: Following months of occasionally tense discussions, Ukraine and the US announced on Wednesday that they were prepared to sign a minerals deal soon. However, an eleventh-hour glitch cast doubt on the timing.
“We are prepared to sign. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters at the White House that the Ukrainians made some last-minute adjustments yesterday night.
“We are confident that they will reevaluate that, and if they do, we are prepared.”
For the signing, a Ukrainian official was traveling to Washington. But according to a source, Kyiv believed it was too soon and that the US was pressuring Ukraine to sign two more documents.
