Beginning with the upcoming season, transgender women will not be allowed to play women’s football in England, according to the Football Association.
Following the UK Supreme Court’s April decision that a woman is defined by her biological sex, the Scottish FA took a similar action this week.
Players over 13 who were born female are the only ones permitted to play women’s football in Scotland.
“Our role as the national sport’s governing body is to make football accessible to as many people as possible, operating within the law and international football policy defined by UEFA and FIFA,” the English FA said in a statement on Thursday.
“We currently have a policy that permits transgender women to play women’s sports.
