NEW DELHI: According to The News, which cited Indian media on Monday, India has limited the flow of water from the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and is also thinking of doing the same at the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River.
According to Press Trust of India, which cited people with knowledge of the situation, India can control the time of water releases from the hydroelectric dams, Baglihar in Ramban in Jammu and Kishanganga in north Kashmir. Following the deaths of 26 persons, primarily tourists, in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), on April 22, India decided to halt the decades-old treaty.
The World Bank mediated the Indus Waters Treaty, which has regulated India’s and Pakistan’s use of the Indus River and its tributaries.
