After several nights of intense Russian drone and ballistic missile bombardment, the skies over Ukraine’s biggest cities were calm Thursday morning as a three-day ceasefire announced by Russia went into effect.
According to Ukraine’s air force, Russian planes dropped guided bombs on the northern Ukrainian region of Sumy twice since the Kremlin-sponsored ceasefire began. Damage reports were nonexistent, and Reuters was unable to independently confirm the strikes.
At midnight Moscow time on the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two, the Russian ceasefire came into force.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is being hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow as part of the anniversary celebrations, and he will also conduct a military review.
