Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian cricket body has suspended the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 competition.
In response to the current situation with Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed the 2025 IPL “with immediate effect for one week,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement on Friday.
After discussions with the IPL Governing Council, broadcasters, sponsors, franchise representatives, and security advisers, the decision was decided. “Acting in the collective interest of all stakeholders was deemed prudent by the Board,” Saikia stated.
Soon after the announcement, players and employees booked early departures, and franchises started to disintegrate. According to the statement, a revised schedule will be released following additional evaluation in consultation with the authorities.
