Prior to the truce, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Pakistan and India to de-escalate their conflict in a conversation with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Saturday, according to a US Department of State official.
The statement added that Rubio promised US support in initiating positive negotiations to prevent future wars.
As the neighbors continued their bloodiest conflict in almost thirty years, Pakistan said it began a military operation against India early on Saturday, hitting several military installations, including a missile storage facility in northern India.
Since Wednesday, when India launched airstrikes on Pakistani territory following a fatal attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which is illegally occupied in Jammu and Kashmir, the two South Asian nations have been exchanging gunfire.
