In a statement condemned by Islamabad as evidence of New Delhi’s desperation, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated Friday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) should reevaluate a $1 billion loan to Pakistan on the grounds that it was “funding terror.”
Prior to reaching an agreement on a ceasefire that went into effect on Saturday, India and Pakistan engaged in the deadliest military conflict in decades last week, killing about 70 people.
The gunmen’s attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) last month set off the clashes, which New Delhi claims Islamabad supported, a claim it refutes.
Singh warned soldiers at an air force installation in western India, “I think a large amount of the $1 billion coming from the IMF will be used for funding terror infrastructure.”
