YORK: A Mexican Navy training ship struck the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, killing two people and injuring 19, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
When the ship struck the famous landmark in New York City late Saturday, while people were watching, all three of its masts broke.
“At this time, of the 277 on board, 19 sustained injuries, 2 of which remain in critical condition, and 2 more have sadly passed away from their injuries,” Adams wrote on X.
The bridge snapped off the masts and sent them plummeting into the East River when the Mexican Navy ship Cuauhtemoc attempted to pass beneath it with its sails furled and festive lights draped in its rigging, according to footage posted online.
