A distinguished scholar was jailed by Indian authorities over a social media post that questioned recent briefings on India’s military action against Pakistan and criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) discriminatory policies against Muslims.
The move comes after India and Pakistan engaged in a military conflict over New Delhi’s accusations against Islamabad regarding a fatal incident in Pahalgam, which is part of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to local media, Ali Khan Mahmudabad, an associate professor at Ashoka University in Haryana, was taken into custody in New Delhi on Sunday. More than a week after nuclear-armed countries India and Pakistan agreed to a truce, he was arrested.
