A surge of online bullying from Pakistani netizens has been triggered by the strange development that Indian authorities have arrested six of their countrymen, including a well-known vlogger, on suspicion of spying for Pakistan.
The arrests coincide with increased tensions between India and Pakistan as a result of recent military posture and vehement language from both countries. Although no hard proof has been released, reports state that the people were arrested for allegedly providing Pakistani intelligence with critical information.
YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, one of those detained, has become the subject of intense online debate following the release of pictures of her in detention by Indian media. In addition to internal criticism, the Indian government’s measures have also sparked mockery and perceived overreaction from Pakistanis on the other side of the border.
