In reaction to India’s recent threat to revoke the Indus Waters Treaty and cut off Pakistan’s water supply, China has accelerated development on the Mohmand Dam project in Pakistan.
Concrete pouring at the Mohmand Dam site has officially started, according to a report by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV on Saturday. This is “a critical construction milestone and a phase of accelerated development for this national flagship project of Pakistan.”
Since September 2019, work on the Mohmand Hydropower Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been underway. Both China and Pakistan consider it a “national flagship project,” and it is being developed by the state-owned China Energy Engineering Corporation.
