According to a new report by British explosive violence monitor Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), Pakistan ranked sixth in the world for civilian casualties from explosive weapons in 2024. This is the greatest number of such deaths worldwide since 2010.
According to the AOAV, 67,026 people were killed and injured by explosive weapons worldwide last year. 59,524 of these, or 89% of the total, were civilians. The number of civilian deaths was 24,147.
2024 was called “the most injurious year for civilians” since the start of the Explosive Violence Monitoring Project, according to the report. Global events rose by 29%, civilian wounded by 69%, and civilian deaths by 50% in comparison to 2023.
