In order to restrict President Donald Trump’s authority to initiate military action against Iran, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has sponsored a bill in the House of Representatives.
Before launching an invasion against the Islamic Republic, the US president would need to secure legislative approval, according to the proposed legislation. Additionally, it directs the administration to “terminate” all current military operations against Iran that have not been specifically approved by Congress.
The action follows recent escalations between Washington and Tehran, which have led to increased tensions in the Middle East. The goal of the proposal, according to Massie, a Republican with a recognized libertarian leaning, is to restore Congress’ constitutional power to declare war.
