According to the New York Post, a Brazilian guy died after consuming a very lethal pufferfish that he got from an unidentified acquaintance in Aracruz, Espirito Santa. The pufferfish has the potential to kill 30 people due to its toxins.
According to a source, the sister of the 46-year-old man who passed away said, “Magno had never cleaned pufferfish before.”
Espirito Santa, a city in Brazil, is reportedly home to a number of pufferfish species. Another name for this poisonous fish is blowfish.
Magno prepared the fish and shared it with his friend after receiving it, something he had never done before. In less than an hour, the effects of the poison began to manifest in him and his friend.
According to his sister, “Magno started to feel numb in his mouth.”
Magno felt sick and drove to the hospital right once, but for eight minutes he was in cardiac arrest and his numbness persisted.
The Brazilian was afflicted with tetrodotoxin, a potent toxin that comes from the liver and gonads of pufferfish and other marine animals, according to the US Centers for Disease Control. There isn’t a counteragent for this poisonous substance.
When consumed in significant amounts, it begins to interfere with the body’s “transmission of signals from nerves to muscles,” paralyzing the muscles and ultimately causing death.
His sister went on to say that her brother had been placed on life support and intubated, but to no effect.
Magno spent 35 days in the hospital before passing away on January 27.
