WASHINGTON: On Tuesday, the Quad alliance—which consists of the United States, India, Japan, and Australia—called for the immediate prosecution of those responsible for the Pahalgam incident, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
India blamed the April 22 strike on Pakistan without providing any proof, sparking intense warfare between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India in the most recent escalation of a decades-old conflict.
Pakistan demanded an impartial inquiry into the fatal assault while denying any involvement.
The grouping’s foreign ministers convened in Washington and released a unified statement from the US State Department, which avoided identifying Pakistan or placing the blame on Islamabad.
