HYDERABAD: On Monday, Hyderabad and the surrounding areas were hit by heavy rains that caused urban floods and extensive disruption, resulting in at least three fatalities and three injuries.
According to Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abideen, a rapid cloudburst caused heavy rains for more than 90 minutes in various places, including Latifabad, Qasimabad, and Tandojam, where the streets and neighborhoods were submerged under several feet of water.
Additionally, hospitals and homes were inundated with floodwater, placing a burden on emergency services. Water buildup beneath the railway bridge in Latifabad prevented travel between Hyderabad and Qasimabad.
In the meantime, dewatering efforts were hindered by extensive power outages caused by at least 350 electricity feeders tripping in the HESCO region.
