ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified the governor and chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the upcoming Senate elections that the notified members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) on the reserved seats cannot participate in the assembly session or cast a ballot in the Senate polls if they have not been sworn in, according to a report published by The News on Tuesday.
In letters to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, ECP Secretary Omar Hamid Khan recommended that an assembly session be held right away to take the oath of office for the returning candidates in order to guarantee the electoral college’s completion.
According to him, the electoral board has a constitutional duty to hold the KP Senate elections, which are scheduled for July 21.
